If Your Firm is not in Compliance

If a registered firm or individual associated with the firm has not complied with securities law, OSC staff may take a number of actions, including:

  • tracking and monitoring the firm or individual
  • conducting a follow-up review
  • imposing terms and conditions on registration, or
  • referring the matter to the OSC Enforcement Branch.

Terms and conditions may include requiring the firm or individual to register monthly, restrictions against bringing in new clients or requiring the firm to hire a compliance expert. Before we impose terms and conditions, the firm will have an opportunity to be heard.

The Compliance team issues annual reports that include the results of compliance reviews, common deficiencies identified in the reviews and suggested best practices. For more information, see OSC Compliance Reports & Staff Notices.
