Welcome to the 2011
OSC Annual Report
The Ontario Securities Commission regulates today's innovative and complex capital markets by working to protect the interests of the investors and markets of Ontario. We are adapting in order to respond appropriately to developments and events in the markets, yet remain focused on investor protection, strong enforcement and proactive rulemaking.
Proactive Regulation
Ontario's capital markets have changed dramatically in recent years. The OSC is responding to the changing environment by modernizing Ontario's regulatory system to reflect the realities of the marketplace.
Enforcement Activity and Concluded Hearings
The OSC enforces securities laws to provide protection to investors and foster confidence in the capital markets. This section features data on the activities of the OSC Enforcement Branch in the various stages of the enforcement process, plus results of concluded settlement and contested hearings before the Commission.
Investor Protection
The OSC's primary focus is to protect the interests of the investors and capital markets of Ontario. The public interest is at the core of everything the OSC does, including the enforcement of securities laws, product regulation and the oversight of registered firms and individuals.
