OSC LaunchPad Information Day for Lawyers
The OSC LaunchPad team is opening its doors to lawyers who practice in the fintech space.
We welcome members of the legal community to come in, have a coffee, and chat about developments that may affect their practices, including the Canadian Securities Administrators’ Regulatory Sandbox and staff notice on cryptocurrency offerings.
Registration is free and is first come, first served. Please note that due to space constraints, and efforts to ensure representation from across the legal community, ONLY 1 registrant per firm will be invited to attend this session. We will confirm attendance via confirmation email by November 8, 2017.

The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) today published CSA Staff Notice 46-307 Cryptocurrency Offerings, which outlines how securities law requirements may apply to initial coin offerings (ICOs), initial token offerings (ITOs), cryptocurrency investment funds and the cryptocurrency exchanges trading these products.
CSA Regulatory Sandbox issues guidance on its fast and flexible process for innovative business models
The CSA Regulatory Sandbox is an initiative of the Canadian Securities Administrators to support fintech businesses seeking to offer innovative products, services and applications in Canada. It allows firms to register and/or obtain exemptive relief from securities laws requirements, under a faster and more flexible process than through a standard application, in order to test their products, services and applications throughout the Canadian market on a time limited basis.

Australian financial regulator and OSC sign agreement to support innovative businesses
Innovative fintech companies in Australia and Ontario will be able to draw on support from the combined resources of their financial regulators as they seek to operate in the others’ market, under a new agreement.
Under the agreement, signed in Toronto this week, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and the Ontario Securities Commission will refer to one another those innovative businesses seeking to enter the others’ market. The regulators may provide support to innovative businesses before, during and after authorisation to help reduce regulatory uncertainty and time to market.
