OSC Continuous Disclosure Advisory Committee to address IFRS, policy issues

March 14, 2011 - New members of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Continuous Disclosure Advisory Committee (CDAC) held their first meeting this month to provide input on issues facing the industry.

At the meeting, CDAC members discussed several key areas of focus, including Canada’s transition to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), shareholder democracy issues, and disclosure related to the going concern assumption. Over a two-year term, CDAC members will advise OSC staff on these and other issues related to policy and rule-making, as well as the planning, implementation and communication of the OSC’s continuous disclosure review program.

The CDAC was established in 2002. It is one of several formal consultation committees organized by the OSC to gather valuable insight on issues related to securities regulation. A consultative approach to regulation helps the OSC to effectively carry out its mandate and deliver on its goal of identifying the important issues and dealing with them in a timely manner. The OSC’s consultation initiatives include formal and informal committees, requests for comment, external conferences and meetings.

The members of the CDAC will meet approximately five times each year. The Committee is chaired by Kelly Gorman, Deputy Director of Corporate Finance at the OSC. The new committee members are:
