OSC Hosts Annual ‘OSC Dialogue’ Event on October 8

TORONTO – On Tuesday, October 8, 2013, the Ontario Securities Commission will host OSC Dialogue, featuring compelling and renowned experts, who will provide insight on current issues impacting the capital markets.

“In an increasingly complex and interconnected global marketplace, the need to share information and ideas has become especially important,” said OSC Chair and CEO Howard Wetston, Q.C. “OSC Dialogue provides a forum where market participants and industry experts come together to have open and frank discussions on some of the biggest issues facing the capital markets today.”

“OSC Dialogue brings together hundreds of market participants and senior level officials to discuss the issues and trends that matter most to them, and this year is no different,” said Maureen Jensen, Executive Director and CAO of the OSC. “The 2013 event line-up is sure to advance the discussion in a number of key areas such as enforcement, capital formation and investor protection, giving us the insight needed to continue to do our job effectively and with accountability.”

Attendees will benefit from issues-driven plenaries and from hearing leading industry experts and senior OSC discuss:

  • Shareholder Rights: Evolving landscape of public company governance, its impact on corporate stakeholders and the blurred lines between corporate law and securities regulation.
  • Behavioural Economics & Investor Protection: Reality or Trend? Discussion of the role of behavioural economics when it comes to investor decision-making.
  • Enforcement: Achieving deterrence objective? Explore the question “What is deterrence?” and how research in this area might inform a regulator’s enforcement of securities law.
  • Capital Formation: Focus on how to maintain a healthy capital raising environment and the role of the regulator in capital formation.
