About the OSC

Economic Analysis, Strategy & Project Planning

The Economic Analysis, Strategy and Project Planning Branch (ESPP) is responsible for ensuring that the OSC’s initiatives and business planning objectives are aligned with its strategic goals. Branch staff provide a number of services including economic analysis project management, and management of certain national electronic filing and registration databases.

The ESPP Branch conducts economic analysis to support the development of laws and policies that demonstrate proportionate securities regulation. Staff provide project-management guidance and expertise to the OSC. They help with project organization and reporting, from the initial planning stage to completion and review. They maintain appropriate project-management standards, strategies and methods, and develop tools to assist successful implementation of projects.

Branch staff also manage the operations of electronic filing and registration systems on behalf of the Canadian Securities Administrators. These systems include the System for Electronic Disclosure by Insiders (SEDI), the System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval (SEDAR), the National Registration Database (NRD) and the Cease Trade Order Database.

Ontario’s capital markets must compete in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. In this environment, the ESPP Branch supports the OSC in being a responsive regulator that delivers balanced, cost-effective regulation.
